A BIT ABOUT OUR CLUB:

During the summer of 1968 some local horse and pony riders got together and formed Stranraer and District Riding Club. The club was fortunate enough to have been able to rent a base, Clashmahew, from Stair Estates. Clashmahew consisted of a stable block and a few fields, this allowed the club to offer DIY livery. Also throughout the season Clashmahew allowed for the club to organise and run many events. In 2010 the club moved to and rented a new site from Stair Estates out at Catle Kennedy. A competiton was held to name the new site and was won by Christa Makinson who suggested Castlefields. Castlefields allows the Riding Club to continue to run many competitions throughout the season and to grow as a Riding Club. As with most clubs there have been good and not so good years. 2008 was an exceptional year with the club growing to a record number of 114 members. Thank you to everyone who supports our club.

Castlefields is now closed for the winter.

GRASS SICKNESS:

Unfortunately there have been two cases of this disease in the local area and Academy Veterinary Centre has asked us to raise awareness amongst horse and pony owners.
If possible, stable overnight during high risk period (May and June).
Horses/ponies aged between 2 and 7 and those in work tend to be more susceptible.

***QUIZ NIGHT***

The Stranraer and District Riding Club Quiz Night will be on Friday 17th February at Bar 12. Come along for sonme fun and test your general knowledge and be in with a chance to win some prizes.
Teams of up to 4 people, all welcome (including non-members). Starts 8pm and costs £8 per team if entered by the 15th Feb, £12 if entered on the night.
